Checkout and payment states
What customers see, payment statuses, and when to fulfil.
The checkout
Shows your business name, order number, items, shipping, tax, total and currency, fees (if any), refund policy and support contact.
Payment, order and checkout states are separate
| Payment status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Pending | Waiting for the provider's confirmation |
| Requires action | Customer must complete authentication |
| Authorized | Approved but not captured — not paid |
| Succeeded | Captured / confirmed — the order is paid |
| Failed | Declined or failed |
| Cancelled / Expired | No payment was taken |
When to fulfil
Only when a payment is Succeeded, confirmed by the API or a verified payment.succeeded webhook. Never from a redirect, screenshot, customer-supplied transaction hash, unsigned event or an uncaptured authorization.
How Orion decides a payment succeeded
Only from verified sources: a signed provider event, an authenticated provider status check during reconciliation, or — for stablecoins — Orion's on-chain verification rules. Every change is recorded in the payment's event history, including events that were ignored as duplicates or out of order.
Duplicates
A paid order cannot start a new checkout. If two payments still succeed, the later one is flagged for refund.
